The Tapestry of Your Life
Imagine that your life is like a tapestry. When you are born, there is a
frame on which the tapestry of your life is going to be woven. The frame determines certain things like
your gender, hair color, eye color, how tall you could grow to be.
From the moment you are born, threads are woven into this tapestry.
And you are going
along in your life and ‘something bad’ happens. It is like this big black blotch got thrown
onto your tapestry. It’s India ink so it’s not coming out.
And sometimes
it is just too painful to go there so you weave around it. Now if you go along, weaving around it, and
you step back a take a look at your tapestry, where do you think your eyes are drawn? Yes, it is actually
a fact of optics that if I had a tapestry in front of you right now and it had a black blotch on it, if you opened your eyes,
your vision would be drawn there. If we avoid dealing with it, it is controlling our lives.
We are either running away from it all the time or being drawn into it all the time.

What we want to do is to begin to carefully weave new threads into that area.
We do that with therapy, loving relationships, sometimes through spiritual experiences, sometimes with reading, and
more. So you are going along in your life carefully weaving these new threads into your life and then if
you step back and take a look at your life, just one of the many things that you notice is how the dark area provides a contrast
for the beautiful threads that have been woven since. Your life is going to be different, but not damaged
or broken.
